Wiley College Partners with META Teletherapy for Online Mental Health Counseling Services
BUFFALO GROVE, IL – Wiley College, one of the nation’s oldest historically Black colleges, has partnered with META Teletherapy to provide online mental health counseling services to all Wiley students.
Through a partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and META, Wiley College students can access teletherapy services from the safety and privacy of their mobile phone. While in the META app, Wiley students can connect with a counselor of their choice from META’s nationwide network of licensed and vetted mental health providers, including social workers, counselors, therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists.
“A digital mental health platform like META’s is the best way to reach students attending remotely or out of state,” said Dr. Brandon K. Dumas, Wiley’s VP for Student Affairs. “Many of our students were already facing personal hardships before COVID. Were fortunate to have additional support from META and the TMCF.”
Students download the META app, choose a counselor, and receive chat, video, or voice counseling through the privacy and convenience of their smartphones. The app presents available counselors for immediate connection, or students can leave a chat or voice message to schedule a future session. META enables students to filter providers by a variety of characteristics, such as gender, therapy style, and language, so students can choose a provider they feel comfortable working with.
The COVID pandemic has added to the stress and anxiety of college students nationwide. Feelings of isolation and depression are on the rise, making a remote counseling solution necessary to address student needs. By partnering with META, Wiley College receives a robust mental health program, complete with self-service content directed at students and an ongoing awareness campaign encouraging students to take care of their emotional and mental well-being.
